A person spraypainting graffiti on a wall in Arabic. Translation: Down with Bashar
“Down with Bashar”

The Syrian Revolution began when the police arrested a couple of kids for spraypainting graffiti on a wall in 2011.

And by 2020 it led to 11 million people being displaced from their homes (6 million within Syria, 5 million internationally) and close to half a million deaths–out of a pre-war population of 22 million.

How did that happen? What was the timeline? How did the police and government response to protest cause the spark to become an all-consuming fire?
