Mammalogy was one of my favorite courses back in my college days. It was 1968 (early Anthropocene) and there were classes and field trips into the deserts and hills. What a blast! The critters are all the same, but much of the taxonomy had changed since those classroom days, as I soon learned when I looked up the chipmunk we saw in the Chiricahua Mountains. And who knew there are 23 species of chipmunks in western North America?! Well, I do now and I will of course share any sightings of the other species found around the west.
The photo is mine. Can you see that cliff chipmunk on the log?
