In episode 25 of Mn Huna: Finding Refuge in Friendship, Houda interviews Christina, one of the English Language Development teachers from her school. Christina taught Houda’s Level 1 English class last year and she’s one of the counselors for the ELD students at Houda’s school.
As part of that class, the students created a photo journal project and created a class showcase, sharing with their families and visitors some of their skills, stories and experiences. Houda says she loves that project because it was her first opportunity to talk in front of people and she saw “the ELD students’ families they’re proud of their children because they were in front of people and in another language. Really that was powerful for me.”
From Houda, a Turkish saying for Christina and all her teachers: “A good teacher is like a candle. It consumes itself to light the way for others.”
