Alba Jaramillo

This week’s Nonprofit Spotlight shines on Alba Jaramillo of the Coalición de Derechos Humanos, a grassroots organization that promotes the human and civil rights of all migrants regardless of their immigration status. Their goals include strengthening the capacity of the border & urban communities to exercise their rights and participate in public policy decisions, increasing public awareness of the magnitude of human rights abuses, deaths and assaults at the border resulting from U.S. policy, and seeking changes in government policies that result in human suffering because of the militarization of the U.S. border region.

On Saturday, February 1st, the Coalición will be hosting a Community Assembly at Our Lady of Fatima Parish. This event is focused on providing guidance and resources to the immigrant community. As part of the program, they will hold a workshop titled “Know Your Rights”, which explains how to respond during any interaction with police or immigration officials. They’ll also distribute family emergency plans to help people prepare in case of detention or deportation.

Community Assembly
1950 W Irvington Pl., Tucson
Saturday, February 1
12:00 PM to 2:00 PM
