This week’s Nonprofit Spotlight shines on Victor Valencia and T.C. Tolbert, co-founders of Building Out Safer Spaces (BOSS). BOSS creates a physical space where women, queer, trans, and femme of center (WQTF) folx can learn, create, network, and explore career opportunities in the building trades. Each year, BOSS opens its space to an artist and provides the tools, guidance, and resources needed to empower them in their craft. BOSS also partners with industry leaders to bring the community opportunities to learn more about trades and works with LGBTQ+ nonprofits to organize building and renovation days in support of housing LGBTQ+ folx in Tucson. They exist to increase gender diversity and close the gender wage gap in the trades industry, and their network of queer and femme tradespeople regularly offer courses, events, and learning opportunities.
