Pedaling the Pueblo – Tribute to Collin Forbes

If you didn’t know Collin Forbes, you likely felt his impact anywhere you live in Tucson. For a decade he joyfully and consistently led the Tuesday Night Bike Ride every week, including holidays, rain, or shine. Collin unexpectedly passed away in October, and the community who knew him well is grieving.

Collin served on the Tucson-Pima County Bicycle Advisory Committee as Secretary for many years. He also worked to build a bicycle crash type database that helped people understand where a lot of serious crashes were happening and what the behaviors were that led to the most serious crashes, both on the part of drivers and people on bikes.

Collin was kind, a hard worker, humble, a gifted programmer, and a believer in using data to drive critical inquiry, especially when it came to understanding safety concerns facing bicycle riders in Tucson. Although he owned a car, Collin rarely drove it. He always preferred getting around by bike.

In honor of Collin’s life and contribution to the cycling community, we are re-airing an episode previously produced on Pedaling the Pueblo about Collin’s personal philosophy on cycling through life. We hope you enjoy it, and that you “be excellent to each other”.
