About Desert Music Project
Since 2021, Desert Music Project (DMP) has made its name sculpting original, instrumental compositions inspired by the sweltering, arid conditions of the Sonoran southwest. Natives to Tucson, AZ, Jake O’Rourke, Daniel Woodruff, and 2024 addition Zachary White fuse their combined passions for jazz, rock, blues, bluegrass, and worldly, cinematic sounds to create genre-bending, ear-catching, toe-tapping originals exemplifying the band’s sources of inspiration through one harmonious pursuit. By incorporating numerous guitars (acoustic, semi-hollow and solid-body electrics, fretless bass, and lap steel) and intricate percussion into their live performances and studio productions, O’Rourke, Woodruff, and White act as the means for their instruments to illustrate that which cannot be captured in words. This leaves listeners to take part in a journey of elaborate musical discovery, contemplative melodies, and experiential soundscapes.
