General Manager Report to the Board of Directors, May 2014

Financial reports have been reviewed separately by the Finance Committee; in general it was a good month and our year-to-date is on track in most categories (under in some, over in others). Please see the staff dashboard for more details.

I met with our health insurance broker. Our costs will be going up a few dollars per month, per covered employee, nothing outrageous. Those changes will occur in the billing for July and those prices will be good through June 2015, helping considerably with budgeting for FY15.

I completed CathyRiver’s annual employee evaluation and offered her the position of Program Director, which she accepted. We’ll be aligning some of the various staff duties to make her more the “go to” point of contact for all deejays in the future; this change results in slightly different responsibilities for Amanda, Cathy and I with little change to Duncan or Michelle.

The Strategic Planning committee is meeting regularly and progressing toward the online survey that will be distributed in mid-June.

KXCI is a sponsor of, and participating in, the Summer in the City discount card program featuring more than 100 merchants along the streetcar route.

Several staff and board members attended the annual Board Development classes offered by Alexander & Carillo (thank you!).

May events included the TKMA Folk Festival, Free Comic Book Day at Heroes and Villians, YWCA Women’s Leadership breakfast, Harvey Milk Diversity breakfast.

During the month of May I had several meetings with Access Tucson’s Lisa Horner about their future and collaborations with KXCI; some of these meetings were one-to-one and others involve additional representatives from organizations like Pima County Public Library and Thryve.

My guests in May for the Downtown Lowdown included the new Johnny Gibson’s Downtown Market, Sacred Space, Downtown Tucson Partnership (summer kid’s classes) and Cinema La Placita.
