Queen’s eighth studio album was the band’s first attempt to incorporate pop arrangements and the use of synths into their prog-hard rock-orchestral-anthemic equation. While this change alienated some Queen purists, it expanded their already huge fan base, becoming the band’s most commercially successful US release. Over time it has come to be seen as one of the group’s best by most critics.
