Transcript:

If you’ve listened to the Beths, the Bangles, the Who, or even the Jonas Brothers, you’ve listened to power pop. This is DJ Power Poppy on the Bonus Tracks. Today, we will be discussing the Beths. The best facts of the best genre, power pop. You may not know what power pop is.
Here are a couple of examples. Dying to Believe by the Beths. I want you to want me by Letters to Cleo.

As you can tell, power pop tends to be upbeat, cheerful, and energetic. It also borrows a lot from pop rock and is actually a sub-genre of rock, which explains a lot about it because it was developed during the British Invasion of the 1960s.

It was mostly coming-of-age American musicians. Fun fact, the British Invasion was an event in which many British musicians were invited to perform. British rock and pop bands became increasingly popular in the US, Canada, and Australia. It was huge for music, but especially power pop. If you enjoyed learning about power pop, I encourage you to look further.

You could find a new kind of music that strikes your interest. I’m DJ Power Poppy, signing off of Bonus Tracks. Have a great day.

Bonus Tracks is made possible thanks to listener support and KXCI’s fabulous education team. Of course it would never happen if it weren’t for the talent that comes to us from youth broadcasters in our community.
