Celebrated around the world, Shivratri is one of the most important and widely observed festivals dedicated to Lord Shiva. This sacred occasion will be observed on Sunday February 15th from 5:30 pm to 8pm at Govinda’s of Tucson. This event is free, including the vegetarian feast and children’s activities. Children will be entertained with animal balloons, arts and crafts, jump & slide bounce castle and s’mores. All attendees will appreciate classical indian dance, known as bharatanatyam, and live music.
Come enjoy the ancient ritual, or abishekam, where a Shiva Lingam is bathed in milk, honey, rose water, yogurt, fresh blended juices, coconut water, mango nectar and flower petals. Many believe that this ritual purifies the mind, removes negative karma, and fosters spiritual growth. It symbolizes the removal of ego and impurities, bringing peace, prosperity, and mental balance. Although the Hare Krishna devotees hosting the event focus on worshipping Lord Krishna, they recognize Lord Shiva as the greatest devotee of Krishna and will perform these Shiva rituals with devotion on this celebrated evening.
Largely unrecognized for their efforts, Tucson Hare Krishna devotees have humbly and quietly been providing spiritual sustenance to the greater Tucson area for over thirty years, offering spiritual programs every day of the year; providing delicious, healthy, scratch meals in their restaurant; and feeding the hungry.
