Thanks for visiting KXCI’s Locals Only – Tucson, AZ.
We’re coming at you this week with another live, in-studio performance from Young MacDonald! They are joining us in Studio 2A for an hour of music and conversation. The show is hosted this week by Matt Milner.
A little bit about Young MacDonald:
Will and Lee were raised in a musical family. Their mother is a music teacher. Their father, although refusing to call himself a musician, plays the guitar. They both started their musical careers at a young age with classical music training. Over the next few years they began to transition away from classical and began to compose and arrange their own fiddle-style music.
Lee is currently a member of the Tucson Symphony Young Composers Project. Will is an alumni. The Young Composers Project is a year-long course where students learn to compose for orchestra while working alongside other young composers, orchestral musicians, conductors and contemporary composers. Musicians ages 8-18 explore the creative process of composition in the classroom and out: they attend TSO dress rehearsals and concerts, meet guest artists and composers, and work with TSO musicians. As the culminating final project, in May the TSO performs their original composition in a public reading session and students receive a live recording of their newly created work! Now in its 26th year, the TSO Young Composers Project has produced more than 400 new works by young composers.
This live performance wouldn’t be possible without the volunteers who help us wrangle all of those angry pixies through the wires, tubes, and airwaves! Thanks goes out to:
