Dr. Beatty is currently an Infectious Diseases Fellow at the University of Arizona College of Medicine who is studying the triatomines (kissing bugs) that inhabit southern Arizona. Kissing bug are known for their bites; which can lead to severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. They also can spread Chagas disease to humans and other animals. Dr. Beatty and his team are inviting the community here in Tucson and surroundings regions to participate in this research through their citizen science program. They will be collecting and testing these kissing bugs for the parasite that causes Chagas disease, learning more about the bites, and testing volunteers who have been bitten for Chagas disease.
