Iliana Manjón is a second-year graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in environmental science. She is working on a citizen science project called Gardenroonts: The Nevada County, CA Project (https://gardenroots.arizona.edu). This project is an assessment of whether preschool-aged children are exposed to arsenic and cadmium through incidental ingestion of soil, consumption of locally grown produce, and inhalation of dust from their school garden and play areas. She also has an additional study that assesses whether plant leaves can be used as low-cost air pollution monitors for contaminants of concern. Upon graduation, Iliana plans to attend medical school to become a physician. She enjoys oil and watercolor painting on her free time, and spending time with her friends and family. Her all-time favorite song is Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler, and her favorite band at the moment is Bleachers.
