My name is Maria E. Macias. I’m a Junior majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology with a minor in Mexican American Studies. I do research in Dr. Daniela Zarnescu’s lab which uses fruit flies as a model for ALS. The project I work on looks at the metabolic dysregulation in ALS, specifically how a glycolytic enzyme called phosphofructokinase could mitigate oxidative stress.
Outside of the lab I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, binge-watching shows, and spending time in nature.
