Hello. My name is Julian Somers and I am currently a senior at the University of Arizona with a major in Biochemistry and a minor in Japanese Language. I have been an undergraduate researcher in Dr. Beilstein’s lab for nearly 3 years, and have been involved in a few different projects. My current project focuses on Capsella rubella homologs of the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) HID1, which was characterized in Arabidopsis thaliana as a mediator of photomorphogenesis by red light. After I graduate, I plan to attend graduate school, seeking a PhD in Plant Molecular Biology or a similar field. In my spare time, I enjoy playing piano, practicing Shotokan Karate, reading, singing, and watching Japanese anime.
