Executive Director of Black Mesa Water Coalition (BMWC) Jihan Gearon stopped by the KXCI studios to discuss her organization’s environmental justice/economic development work which focuses Black Mesa. This region of the Navajo nation has experienced negative public health and environmental impacts from coal-fired power plants on, and surrounding, the nation.

Black Mesa Water Coalition’s mission is to build a “Just Transition” away from the fossil fuel based economy of the Navajo Nation towards a green economy that uplifts the traditional economy, and honors the culture and health of the Navajo people.

BMWC, in partnership with others, has worked for economic, social and environmental justice for more than 15 years on the Navajo nation.
