Michael-Engs 30 Minutes features remarks made by Dr. Michael Engs as he presented Peregrinos Negroes: Africans in the Spanish Colonial Period 1519-1821 at “Tapestry of Tucson a Centennial Celebration” presented by Tucson Pima Arts Council‘s Community of Practice Members at the Dunbar Center. In February 2012, Black History Month coincided with Arizona’s Centennial Statehood Celebrations. Engs is on the speakers bureau of the Arizona Humanities Council, and he is a volunteer for the Tucson Presidio Trust. He strives to bring this little known period of history of Black people and their extensive contributions to the settlement of the southwest to a broader audience.
