Captains Log Submission Instructions for 2021
Greetings and Happy New Year to all Captain’s Loggers, listeners and supporters! You put the star in starfleet.
We are welcoming 2021 with a reboot of the Captain’s Log Project which airs Sundays at 5:30 pm on KXCI. You can listen to past programs here: https://kxci.org/programs/captains-log-project/
I would like to extend an invitation to submit a log for the show!
I am exploring some different formats so please read the instructions below, as some things are new from our 2020 instructions.
Instructions
Time limits:
In the past we have limited logs to 4 minutes. You may now submit logs up to ten minutes (less is also fine). ALSO if you are interested in collaborating with me on an interview style log format for a full show, please let me know and I will work with you on this.
NOTE: In production, I might break up the longer logs with a music break or edit sections for time.
General Tips:
- Read the instructions below.
- Don’t repeat the questions, just answer them.
- Write out a script, play with it.
- Read out your script fully once or twice to make sure it flows well.
Log Instructions:
- Record (I have been using iPhone voice memos – recording in my closet for soundproofing, email me with questions or if you need help recording.)
- WE HAVE A NEW VOICEMAIL! To record your log, you can just simply call 520-222-8652 and leave your log as a voicemail.
- Start with the statement “{Your Name –first is fine, or whatever you are comfortable with}, Captain’s Log, Stardate {a DATE like January 10, 2021}
- Yes like Star Trek! You can be funny or serious, some days we say its April 45th.
- Answer the following questions AND/OR tell a Covid era story. (don’t repeat the questions, just state your answers):
-
- What is your social distance status – ie Home? How Long? Working? Remote? Just back to work? Out to dinner all the time? What kind of mask do you wear?
- What are you doing that is different than normal? (ie biking more, rearranging, more tired or alternately thriving, cooking or eating differently – more takeout?)
- Covid status (only if you are comfortable sharing) What has been your experience? Has anyone in your circle contracted the virus? Have you received the vaccination?
- How are you feeling about 2021?
- What songs (or things) got you through 2020? (Depending on time, I might play those songs right after your log.)
Save and email to [email protected] – PLEASE title the recording and email: Your Name/Captain’s Log (MP3 files are best, wave files and MP4’s also work ).
Please feel free to email me with any questions or ideas. I’d love to hear from you.
Live Long and Prosper ,
First Officer Amy A. – The Captain’s Log Project
