Alex Fernandez, M.Ed, LISAC, is currently the Senior Director of Addiction Services at CODAC’s 380 site. Alex’s experience in the social services world began in 1992 after the sudden death of her older brother who struggled with mental illness and substance use. Her first job was in a residential group home. Though it wasn’t clear to her at the time, she recognizes that she wanted to better understand her brother’s illness and help others impacted by behavioral health disorders. Since then, Alex has worked extensively with adolescents and adults. Her prior experience includes leadership roles with Intermountain Centers for Human Development, A Place to Call Home, Catholic Community Services/St. Elizabeth’s Health Center, and the Community Partnership of Southern Arizona.
In her current position with CODAC Alex oversees the Medication Assisted Treatment Program, CODAC’s Men’s Recovery Program and the Criminal Justice team. She works in close collaboration with the Tucson Police Department to implement the TPD deflection program and the Unified Medication Assisted Treatment Targeted Engagement Response (U-MATTER) program.
