TUCSON’S ‘NO KINGS DAY’ RALLY @ THE REID PARK BANDSHELL
WHEN: Saturday, March 28th, 11am – 3pm
WHERE: Reid Park Amphitheater (Bandshell)
800 S. Concert Pl., Tucson, AZ 85716

Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva is scheduled to speak in both English and Spanish, and many booths from important community organizations will share information and offer ways to get more involved in our community and the political process. There will be music, food trucks, a children’s play area, and both established and emerging voices speaking on a variety of progressive topics.

We wake up every morning to a constant, mind-numbing onslaught of news about this administration’s cruelty, malfeasance, corruption, lies, cover-ups, grift, and general lack of competence, integrity, and empathy. They simply do not care about the truth, the American people at large, or the United States Constitution, which they swore an oath to “preserve, protect, and defend.” The Republican majorities in the Senate, the House, and the Supreme Court have ceded their power to act as a check and balance on this administration in ways that are cowardly, coordinated, and complicit. We have never seen the body politic of the United States in such disarray.

There is ever-increasing economic and political inequality at levels not seen since the Gilded Age. There is the demonization and scapegoating of small, already marginalized populations. There is the fact that we are engaged in an illegal war of choice in the Middle East, not to mention the numerous other international extractive entanglements this administration has dragged us into, while simultaneously isolating us from our historic post-WWII consensus allies and international/intergovernmental organizations. There have been 1st Amendment/free speech attacks on the press, universities, law firms, and individuals. There is rapid corporate consolidation, monopolization, and cronyism in the mass media and tech sectors. We have borne witness to the industrial-scale buildup of a ruthlessly violent and militarized domestic group of hired guns that racially profiles and preys on the already marginalized, completely ignoring due process while doing so. Americans are struggling economically, less connected, and more fragile than ever, afraid right now, and afraid for our future. These constant shocks to our collective moral compass, and the feeling that there is nothing we can do as individuals, can premeditate a paralysis that we all have experienced in some form or another.

The perfect antidote to this moment is to meaningfully commune with one another, engage with like-minded communities and non-profit organizations, share what’s on our minds, discuss new and innovative ideas as we look towards the future, and demand greater accountability from our government.
