The Tucson Flute Club will present their annual Members’ Recital on Saturday, May 9, at 2 p.m. at St. Philip’s In The Hills Episcopal Church (in the Murphey Gallery). The recital will feature various combinations of sizes of flutes — duets, trios, and small ensembles — playing all genres of music. In addition, enjoy selections by the Southern Arizona Flute Orchestra, under the baton of Jack Schmidgall, Music Director.
In conjunction with the concert, a silent auction will be held. Audience members can bid on a collection of world flutes, other music-related items, and what have you! A dessert reception will follow. The public is warmly invited to attend. Admission is free, with donations appreciated.
The instrumentation for the concert will include six sizes of flutes – piccolo, C flute, alto flute, bass flute, contrabass flute, and sub-contrabass flute – encompassing seven octaves and producing a surprising, richly textured sound.
St. Philip’s is located at 4440 North Campbell Avenue (at River Road, northeast corner). The best way to access the Murphey Gallery is to park under the solar panels in the northeast parking lot and then walk south past the church offices to the Gallery entrance.
