About Sarah Tolar
Sarah Tolar is an accomplished performer, vocalist, songwriter, producer & music educator. Sarah has released three full-length albums of her original compositions, performed throughout the United States, Europe, China, and Canada and appeared on several television shows including the Today Show & The Late Show with David Letterman.
Sarah was born in Greeley, Colorado into a family of musicians. Her parents had a duo country/folk act and Sarah grew-up singing at restaurants and clubs with her parents. Her family moved to Santa Clarita Valley in Southern California when Sarah was 10 years old. After high school, Sarah toured on a bus with a song and dance troupe that performed throughout the United States.
After the tour, Sarah headed to Denton, TX to study jazz at the University of North Texas and graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Music and a Masters of Music in jazz performance. While in Texas, Sarah earned Downbeats prestigious Best College Female Vocalist Award and began performing with her jazz quartet throughout Dallas and Ft. Worth.
Upon graduating, Sarah moved to New York City. During her years in NYC, Sarah recorded and released two full-length albums of her original music and performed thorough-out New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, and California. Along with her jazz quartet that performed her original music, Sarah led a 15-piece private event band and had the opportunity to work with such influential artists as James Taylor, Jon Bon Jovi, and Billy Joel among others.
Sarah’s first album, BIG BLUE MOON, produced by pianist David Cook (Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson) features Sarah’s original jazz-folk compositions. While promoting BIG BLUE MOON, Sarah opened for Grammy-winner Christopher Cross & toured the East Coast, Switzerland & the Czech Republic.
Sarah’s second release, VISION, is a collaboration with drummer/composer Bill Campbell (Kurt Rosenwinkel, Meshell Ndegeocello, Snarky Puppy). VISION leans more electronic and includes songs written with Campbell along with Sarah’s originals.
Sarah moved to Tucson, Arizona in the Fall of 2021. Shortly after moving to Tucson, Sarah met Tucson indie record label owner, Bob Lambert who suggested they collaborate on a project together. Released on Desert Vinyl Records Fall 2024, Sarah’s third album SOMETHING SARAH is produced by Jeffrey Wood and Bob Lambert. The album features three of Sarah’s original compositions along with jazz standards and beloved folk song. SOMETHING SARAH features an exceptional collection of Tucson, NYC, and San Francisco based musicians. All three of Sarah’s albums can be heard on radio stations across the United States are available on all music streaming platforms.
As a vocalist, Sarah has toured with electro-funk duo Chromeo, performing at Lollapalooza, Coachella, The Roundhouse in London, Canada’s Juno awards television appearances on Conan O’Brien on TBS & Jimmy Fallon.
Sarah has recorded studio vocals for a number of television shows and commercials & worked with such well-respected composers/writers as Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
Sarah is a passionate music educator, with a teaching studio that offers instruction in various vocal styles, piano, music theory, & songwriting.
