The Loft Cinema and KXCI present:
Get ready to Rock the Casbah on International Clash Day at a special 45th anniversary screening of the newly restored 1980 cult classic Rude Boy, starring legendary punk band, The Clash!
“Furiously alive … the concert scenes capture the band in all its ragged glory.” – Janet Maslin, New York Times
In the fiery 1980 cult classic Rude Boy, filmmakers Jack Hazan and David Mingay merge documentary and fiction in their tale of Ray Gange, a roughneck roadie for the most revolutionary rock ‘n’ roll band of the punk era – The Clash. Proving a difficult, sometimes reactionary subject and a foil to the band’s idealism, Gange plays observer to The Clash’s legendary 1978 Rock Against Racism concert in London’s Victoria Park and their acclaimed studio recording of Give ‘Em Enough Rope. Set against a background of riots, racist and anti-racist demonstrations, and police hostility towards Black British youth, this unforgettable, absorbing film, featuring an abundance of electrifying live performance footage of The Clash at the height of their power, portrays a chaotic UK on the brink of Thatcherism, and a moment when subcultural shock troops and a passionate rock band battled a rising right wing in the streets and on the stage. (Dir. by Jack Hazan & David Mingay, 1980, UK, 113 mins., Rated R)
