KXCI Community Radio is once again excited to present the best blues party of the year at the legendary El Casino Ballroom. This year’s 12th Annual House Rockin’ Blues Review will showcase some of the finest musicians in the business with Mark Hummel’s Blues Allstars featuring Anson Funderburgh and Junior Watson.
Mark Hummel began playing harmonica in 1970 and is considered one of the premier blues harmonica players of his generation. Two-time Blues Music Award winner Hummel has been featured on over thirty recordings since 1985, including his 2013 Grammy-nominated recording Remembering Little Walter. In 1991, he started Mark Hummel’s Blues Harmonica Blowout featuring major harp legends such as John Mayall, Charlie Musselwhite, James Cotton, and Lazy Lester. His latest release, True Believer, features his trademark harmonica sound- a subtle combination of tone, phrasing and attack combined with a strong sense of swing.
Mark Hummel’s Blues Allstars feature two of the most prolific guitarists on the blues scene today. Texas guitarist Anson Funderburgh has been performing with Hummel since 2010. He is known for his concise lead guitar attack and unmistakable style and tone. This rare combination has made him one of the most sought-after blues artists performing today. Also on the bill is Junior Watson, known as California’s “King of the Blues Guitar” because of both his versatility and virtuosity. He has thirty years of experience and over one hundred and fifty recording sessions to his credit, appearing on more than fifty records by such greats as Jimmy Rogers, Charlie Musselwhite, Kim Wilson, William Clarke, and Big Mama Thornton.
Doors are at 6:30, show at 7:30. Tickets will be $25 for KXCI Members and $30 for the general public in advance online at kxci.org and all Bookmans locations, or $35 at the door. As always, the show will be hosted by KXCI’s own master of the blues, Marty Kool. Food will be available for purchase from The Parish.
KXCI Executive Director Elva De La Torre welcomes all to attend, “We’re thrilled to have folks back at El Casino for another great KXCI show featuring Mark Hummel’s Blues Allstars. Grab your friends and join us for a special night of incredible music, food, and community. See you there!”
