unNATURAL BORDERS is an exhibit that seeks to explore the complex interplay between natural and human-imposed boundaries, offering a powerful visual narrative of how these borders shape and divide the world around us. Presented by BorderLens/SW, a collective of women photographers and cinematographers from the US Southwest, they invite audiences to reflect on the profound influence of borders—both natural, such as rivers, deserts, and mountains, and unnatural, such as roadways, and national boundaries. Through diverse artistic interpretations we can see how these boundaries impact ecosystems, species migration, and human movement, prompting questions about the balance between nature’s organic borders and those created by human intervention. Founded in Tucson, Arizona, BorderLens/SW is a collective of women photographers and cinematographers, with work ranging from documentary to fine art and traditional to digital media, while also maintaining connections with sister collectives in Mexico to enrich cross-border dialogues.
