Archaeology Café: “Tracking the First Americans” with Vance T. Holliday
Tuesday, February 3, 2026 | Doors 5:30 p.m. | Talk 6:00 p.m.
Location: Archaeology Southwest Headquarters, 300 N Ash Alley, Tucson, AZ
Attend in person or online via Zoom Webinar
Join Vance T. Holliday, Professor Emeritus of Anthropology and Geosciences at the University of Arizona, as he explores groundbreaking discoveries from White Sands National Park. Recent research there reveals human footprints dating between 23,000 and 21,000 years ago—making them the oldest known in the Americas. These findings challenge long-held ideas about when and how the first people arrived. Holliday will discuss what the tracks reveal about the ancient floodplain environment, the nearby lake and wetland complex, and the lives of the people who once crossed this remarkable landscape.
Recordings of each Archaeology Café are posted online following the event.
