“Be our guest!” this holiday season with Disney’s Beloved Musical Masterpiece, “Beauty and the Beast: The Broadway Musical” at Arts Express Theatre December 6-29! Based on the Academy-Award winning film with additional music by original composer Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and a book by Linda Woolverton, this Tony-Award winning instant hit will enchant the entire family. Shows run weekends December 6-29 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday Matinees at 2 p.m.
The classic “tale as old as time” centers around Belle (Danae Dorame), a young woman with an adventurous heart in a provincial town, and the Beast (Andrew Gray) whose entire castle has been put under a spell as punishment for his cruel treatment of an Old Beggar Woman (Susan Thibodeaux) disguised as an Enchantress.
Belle’s father Maurice (Paul Petersen), a quirky inventor, gets lost in the forest on the way to a fair and Belle, fearing for her father’s safety, sets off to find him. When she comes upon the castle where her father is being held prisoner, she encounters the fearsome, surly Beast, and offers to become his prisoner in exchange for her father’s freedom.
Outraged but resigned to her fate, Belle soon realizes that the seemingly empty castle is filled with enchanted objects who speak to her and help befriend her. Little does she know that everyone residing in the castle had been transformed by the Enchantress, and will remain so unless the Beast finds someone to truly love and earn their love in return, and must do so by his 21st birthday, or all of them will remain cursed permanently.
