AET Presents Classic Broadway Favorite “Grease”

SUPPORT
GREASE runs July 12-28 at Arts Express Theatre

“Grease” is indeed the word at Arts Express Theatre July 12 – 28! Our production of this pop culture classic gets an extra boost by having two original Broadway “Grease” veterans at its helm: Director Ray DeMattis and Choreographer Robin Vogel. Tucson’s Chris Wills is serving as Assistant Director and Dr. Anne Grimes as Music Director, both Professors at Pima College.

The Story of Danny (Tommy Irish) and Sandy (Abbi Rye) and their teen trials and tribulations among the Greasers at Rydell High, led by Rizzo (Melanie Moreno) of the Pink Ladies and Kenickie (Bear McDonald) of the Burger Palace Boys, has become a major piece of American Musical history, enhanced by the enormously popular feature film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.

It was nominated for seven Tony Awards, received two Drama Desk Awards and at one point became the longest running show on Broadway.

All of this told and sung with a definite infectious rock n’ roll beat of the Fifties, which audiences have enjoyed since it began in the Seventies. Its energy is infectious and anyone who has endured adolescence can relate to every one of our talented cast rockin’ on our stage and would definitely want to bop around town in our “souped up” Greased Lightning.

So don’t be square: girls, get out your poodle skirts, and guys, your blue suede shoes, and come on back to the Fifties.

“Grease” performances run July 12- 28 Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., with matinees Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Please note our special summer Wednesday matinee performances.

Books, lyrics and music by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey.
