KXCI Youth Broadcasting Camps will return October 7th – 11th. Please email [email protected] for information about the waitlist for Fall 2024, Spring, and Summer 2025 sessions.

Level One: Monday-Thursday + Sunday

Youth Broadcasting Camps (ages 9-17)

Level One Youth Broadcasting Camps are for first-time in-person students.

Level One Camp Description: This unique FREE week-long camp offers an opportunity for youth in Southern Arizona to explore how music, sound, and images connect and inform each other. Youth will work with the KXCI Education Team to create their own unique playlists and zines. These are hands-on classes where students are introduced to broadcast equipment and rules, music appreciation and selection, creating music sets, reading station announcements, and talking about the music they love. Over this week-long camp, youth broadcasters will also learn to create a zine, fostering further inspection of the music they love. Graduates will return the following Sunday to participate in a Youth Broadcasting Camp radio takeover! Students will conduct their own live half-hour radio show that will be recorded and rebroadcast on KXCI during The Future of Radio Sundays at 5 pm.

Level Two Youth Broadcasting Camps are for returning students who have completed Level One.

Level Two: Monday-Friday

Level Two Camp Description: During our level two Youth Broadcasting camp, students will research, record, and produce their own short-form radio program exploring lesser-known facts, stories, and insights about music in the world we share. Throughout the week, students will learn about research techniques to discover more about each youth broadcaster’s favorite artist, album, or song. From there, we workshop a script that includes the student’s research and their unique perspectives and opinions. Finally, there’s an overview of the basics of recording and editing to broaden the scope of production techniques. As a result, the Youth Broadcasters will produce an episode of Bonus Tracks.

Armory Park Studio at 220 S 4th Avenue

KXCI’s Education Team is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of diversity, equity, access, and inclusion. We review applications on an ongoing basis and will notify youth broadcasters and their families of their application status on an ongoing basis. For the time being, each class is limited to 8 students. You will be contacted if camp sessions reach capacity, and your future youth broadcaster will be put on a waitlist.

Please note the specific dates and times of each camp.

If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Engs KXCI Director of Education and Community Engagement at [email protected] or (520) 623-1000 ext. 19.
