General Manager Report, February 2010

Financial statements for January 2010 are being provided separately. Overall I am pretty satisfied with our current financial health, especially with regard to the amount of cash on hand in relation to the membership drive being only ten days away.

The audit is complete and I have an appointment with Regier Carr Monroe to pick it up on Friday, February 19th, at which time I will begin the final step in the CPB grant application and related paperwork (earlier steps having already been completed). I anticipate no need to file for an extension this year. After the CPB grant is filed I can begin work on the ACA filing which is due in mid-March.

The spring membership drive arrives Friday, February 26th. More than 1,000 early renewal letters, and more than 700 “New Friends Friday” solicitations, have been mailed to listeners, and three training classes for deejays and other volunteers will be the week of February 22nd.

I attended a meeting for downtown merchants on February 12th, organized by the Ward 6 Council Office, at which KXCI was recognized for its efforts in supporting downtown events. In particular we are now working with a group of dedicated individuals to resurrect the Downtown Saturday Night concept; KXCI has pledged marketing support and will act as the fiduciary sponsor for the event.

Earlier this month, I also represented KXCI at a meeting of community leaders to discuss the future of Access Tucson television.

We are approaching the peak season for events. In the next several weeks, KXCI will be out in our community at the Tucson Peace Fair and Music Festival; the 4th Avenue Spring Street Fair; Solar Rock; and the TKMA Tucson Folk Festival.

Another successful auction concluded on February 4th, with net proceeds of about $3100 exceeding the budget expectations. Our next online auction is in late spring.

The annual Calexico and Friends benefit is now set for Saturday, April 3rd in an outdoor event billed as “Festival En El Barrio Viejo.” Organizing/planning work for the event is being handled by Stateside and the Rialto Theatre, although KXCI is expected to spearhead the marketing efforts and provide volunteer support.

With its 5 year lease expired, the business office machine was shipped back to Canon in New Jersey. As I have mentioned previously, the switch to a new machine that we own will reap substantial savings each month with no change in quality, although the new machine is a bit slower and requires a little more planning for large jobs.
