Australian multi-instrumentalist Tash Sultana has soul down to a science. Inspired by the likes of Erykah Badu and Sade, they arrange vivid shades of guitar, bass, keys, percussion, and horns alongside a genuinely wowing vocal range. Born in Melbourne in 1995, Sultana began busking at age 13 and broke out with 2016’s textural marvel “Jungle,” topping off that song’s collage-like process with the high-wire daring of their versatile singing. Sultana’s innovative use of looping and layering continued to develop on outings like 2021’s Terra Firma and an MTV Unplugged session in 2022. Rather than be pigeonholed in one style, though, Sultana branched out into psych, dream pop, and indie rock on 2023’s SUGAR EP. There’s even a romance-steeped R&B duet with BJ the Chicago Kid on “Bitter Lovers,” following a string of memorable collabs with Matt Corby, Milky Chance, and high-school mate Jerome Farah. Not that Sultana needs extra help: juggling up to a dozen instruments at a time, they feel equally empowered and unfettered in everything they create.
Tash Sultana has never followed the script. The multi-instrumentalist, engineer, producer, and entrepreneur has built a groundbreaking career defined by creativity, authenticity, and relentless determination. In 2025, Tash embarks on an exciting new chapter with Milk & Honey, the lead single from their forthcoming EP. A deeply personal track, it reflects on fulfilment, fame, and simplicity, marking a bold return to their roots as a looper. Having amassed billions of streams, headlining major festivals, sold-out arena tours across the globe, and performances to hundreds of thousands of fans worldwide, Tash stands as one of Australia’s most influential and celebrated artists.
