Legendary KXCI DJ Al Perry

Retires World-Famous Clambake

On March 31st, 2026, Al Perry aired his final episode of the Clambake, closing out years of broadcasting defined by his idiosyncratic vernacular, deep musical knowledge, and a truly masterful ear. Al didn’t just play music; he shaped a listening experience, moving seamlessly between curation and craft in a way that made every show feel intentional and alive. His ability to connect sounds, stories, and moments is singular. Stay tuned for future programs when he steps in on shows like The Home Stretch or Global Rhythm Radio, and take some time to revisit his past playlists or listen back to his final episodes in the KXCI archive.

Tune in for a tribute to Al Perry on Tuesday, April 7th, from 10 pm to midnight, on KXCI with host JimmyD. (see below)

Here’s a statement from Al Perry:

Way back at the beginning of time (that is, the internet), I started a KXCI program, The (World-Famous) Clambake. This was 1998, and I have continued with it until now, where I am one of the station’s old-timers!

I was a youngster then, full of vim and vigor, and hope and positivity. Now, I’m an embittered old man, hunched over and grumbling about the good old days.

Haw Phaw! Just kidding. Music has always kept me young at heart.

Seriously, though, the time has come for me to retire the show.

It has been a blast for me to share the sounds, especially the historic Arizona music I love. I like to think that I’ve educated as well as entertained.

God bless Link Wray, Brian Wilson, Kevin Daly, Joe Bussard, Billy Maxwell and many, many other greats too numerous to list here. If you listened, then you know.

Huge thanks to the KXCI staffers, volunteers, and listeners for the support. And a big shout-out to the unofficial Arizona music historian, John P. Dixon. Check out azmusicdude.com.

KXCI DJ Jimmy D. exclaimed, “Wow. To think Al Perry’s (world-famous–and now legendary) Clambake had its last regular broadcast on March 31, 2026, after 28 years of exploring Arizona Music and genres too diverse and eclectic to list. Al’s farewell perfectly captures the enthusiasm, spirit, and yes, the genius that was the Clambake. Join me for a tribute to Al Perry, talented musician, unequaled DJ, and KXCI icon this Tuesday, April 7th, from 10 pm to midnight, on KXCI, 91.3 FM in Tucson, kxci.org on the web. Happy trails, Al.”
