Caroline Rose

“I think first and foremost I consider myself a storyteller,” says Caroline Rose. The singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist began writing poetry at 13 before debuting a vintage folk-rock hybrid in 2012. Injecting her dry wit into a more contemporary sound, the Long Islander teetered between dance, pop and punk on LONER (2018) and 2020’s Superstar, which Uncut likened to “a bedroom-laptop fever dream from a parallel universe”. Her dynamic live shows bounce between electric guitar solos and stand-up comedy segments.

““This time around she is simply, frighteningly, herself.” – New York Times

Caroline Rose’s newest live show explodes in color. Angry reds, deep blues, vibrant yellows, and every shade in-between flex and melt onstage in a dazzling light show dance that only grows in intensity as the set goes on.” – Nylon

Caroline Rose has traversed multiple styles since her 2014 debut album, from countryish roots-rock to gleaming electronic pop. None of them forecast the ghostly and then overwhelming ‘Love/Lover/Friend.’ … As she announces ‘I am your love,’ a string orchestra surges in, and further avowals … summon massed, Balkan-tinged vocals, as if that revelation is both ecstatic and humbling.” – Jon Pareles, The New York times

Rose’s latest – a moody collection of downcast orchestral pop – is their most fascinating and forward-thinking song cycle to date.” – Rolling Stone

“The ever-inventive singer/songwriter raises her agonies to a new height, and compelling entertainment…The Art of Forgetting swings between joy and darkness with a boldness and coherence that is a marvel.” – MOJO 4/5

“On her fourth album, Caroline Rose pulls another 180, abandoning the Princely swagger of 2020’s Superstar to deliver an audaciously unguarded song cycle about memories.” – Uncut 8/10

“The Art of Forgetting is a bold and adventurous album that sees Caroline Rose pushing boundaries of their abilities as a songwriter.” – Still Listening 90/10

“Without holding back any emotions … reflective, acoustic-guitar backed single … Rose’s sense of humor with themes of regret, grief, shame, and loss… after a massive breakup, Rose looked inside themself as they learned to love themself again” – Rolling Stone

“Intoxicating, arpeggiated strings from an acoustic guitar with different textures through different forces, pulls, swells, and constraints … war-like drumbeat and deep growls of an electric guitar for the chorus” Paste
