Unquestionably one of the most staggeringly beautiful releases of 2023 was the powerful solo debut by Durand Jones, Wait Til I Get Over. Shifting from the collaborative context of his band The Indications, Jones turned his focus towards his deeply personal coming-of-age experiences in the rural South as a queer Black man.

His performance on KXCI’s Soul Stories program (hosted by soul and R&B expert Dr. Tyina Steptoe) left us all spellbound.
