More than forty years ago, the vision of KXCI was to be a community music and information radio station that didn’t target a particular demographic or answer to market concerns. Our founders set out to be an alternative broadcast outlet the likes of which the desert had never heard. Each December 6th we celebrate our birthday. This year, we are thrilled to celebrate our 40th Birthday and we are honored that both Governor Hobbs and Mayor Romero recognized this milestone with a proclamation.

Mayor Regina Romero Reads KXCI Day Proclamation
WHEREAS, the connective capacity of independent, community-based radio station 91.3FM KXCI informs, engages, and inspires listeners with a signal reaching across Southern Arizona and around the world, providing a diverse musical soundtrack as well as an array of thoughtful public affairs programming
WHEREAS, KXCI has maintained a deep commitment to curating a rich, vibrant and inclusive range of programming that truly reflects the diverse nature of Southern Arizona’s population, using the power of the microphone to elevate and illuminate the voices of all residents, including our region’s Indigenous, Black, and Latinx populations, and the LGBTQIA+ community, while also further nurturing young voices through the station’s broadcast education initiatives
WHEREAS, KXCI is a proudly local cultural institution that provides an essential platform for sharing the creative talents of our unique local music community as well as the airtime for amplifying the messages of Tucson and Southern Arizona’s many local nonprofits and social service agencies
WHEREAS, KXCI has been connecting the communities of Tucson and Southern Arizona to each other and the world with informative, engaging, and creative community-based programming since 1983
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Regina Romero, Mayor of the City of Tucson, Arizona, do hereby proclaim December 6, 2023 to be

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Tucson to be affixed this 6th day of December 2023.
