The Dead South announce a USA summer headline tour, which includes stops throughout the midwest and beyond, with special guest opener Corb Lund. The tour kicks off with the four-piece band’s sold out debut at the historic Ryman Auditorium, set for July 7, 2023. The platinum-certified string band have just wrapped a sold out and hugely successful first tour of Australia and New Zealand, which is consistent with two major themes of recent years: debuts and other milestones, and sold out shows. The Dead South’s most recent releases, Easy Listening for Jerks, Parts 1 & 2, are companion EPs that reflect the influences and icons that have shaped the band’s sound. Come for their sombre and stormy take on “You Are My Sunshine” (Part 1) and stay for their cover of “Chop Suey,” (Part 2) which made Loudwire’s list of Best Metal Covers of 2022: “While plucking banjo, mandolin, cello and guitar, the song immediately takes on a bluegrass feel, but rest assured, the passion and fury of the playing is no less intense.”Excellent, surprising and compelling in equal measures, Easy Listening for Jerks shows the many sides of The Dead South. See The Dead South live this summer. ABOUT THE DEAD SOUTHWith banjo, mandolin, cello and guitar, The Dead South certainly look the part of bluegrass traditionalists. But, as outsiders to the bluegrass world by circumstances of geography, they’re from the Canadian prairies, and by influences, equal parts finger-picking and punk, there are few comparisons to be made for the four-piece acoustic band. With a global following sparked by YouTube, early success in German rock clubs and now, sold out shows at iconic venues in many continents, this is no country for old-time string purists. A brotherhood first and foremost, formed in university and forged on the road, The Dead South are quite comfortable in their role as a total anomaly most everywhere they go. Their progressive, tightly-constructed approach to acoustic music that favours intricate solos and harmonies has brought two JUNO Awards for Traditional Roots Album of the Year, the most recent for the Muscle Shoals-made Sugar & Joy (2019).
