On Saturday, June 19th, KXCI will hold an all-day, sonic celebration of Juneteenth. Listen in from 6am to midnight as KXCI DJs Minister Johnona, Cheron, Mario, DJ Wesley Rae, Traci, Professor Steptoe and DJ Mookie join in reflection and jubilee, participating in a tradition of local, public celebration. Music and programming will honor the African American freedom holiday and the past and continuing work of the Civil Rights Movement. Tune in to 91.3 FM or stream at KXCI.org on Saturday June 19th, for holiday music and programming.
You can learn more about Juneteenth’s history by reading last year’s UANews interview with Arizona historian and host of KXCI’s Soul Stories, Dr. Tyina Steptoe. Kyle Mittan discusses with Professor Steptoe the history of the holiday recognizing emancipation and why more people than ever may have celebrated it last year and in the future.
