Conceived within a dream KXCI Home Stretch host Hannah Levin had just a few weeks prior to the 2021 Spring Equinox, the intent of these sessions was to capture a hopeful moment of beauty by welcoming back the comfort of live music on the streets of Tucson’s historic and beloved Barrio Viejo. Whiskey Del Bac proprietress Amanda Paul graciously let us use the steps of her front porch as a stage and local designer Erin Cox created a gorgeous floral backdrop that drew heavily on the orange tree branches that were just beginning to bloom in her yard. Acoustic performances by local artists Carlos Arzate, Leila Lopez, and Salvador Duran (accompanied by Gabriel Sullivan) were captured by engineer Frank Bair and videographers Julius Schlosburg and Taylor Valadez under Levin’s direction while neighbors watched as the sun set on the Equinox. The resulting suite of sessions contains three separate episodes, each with a song selected specifically for the occasion.
In this first episode, Arzate performs “Sinner or Saint,” a song that perfectly reflects the spirit of this project: to cultivate a sense of hope after a tumultuous time.
