Album release show for teenage bluesman Roman Barten-Sherman and longtime Tucson blues master Tom Walbank, celebrating the release of their new album New Hill Country Blues.
Roman Barten-Sherman received a handmade banjo from Ben Todd of Lonesome Shack at the age of two. Now 16, he has immersed himself in fingerstyle, country blues, and ragtime guitar, including the music of Fred McDowell, Blind Blake and John Fahey. Besides writing his own songs, Roman draws from a deep repertoire that runs from the haunted blues of the Delta to raggy dance tunes.
Arizona Blues Hall of Famer Tom Walbank is a world renowned harmonica player and true student of the instrument, a fixture of the Tucson music scene for twenty years who’s appeared on countless recordings. On this joint album, he follows in the footsteps of Mississippi Hill Country harp players such as Johnny Woods to accompany Barten-Sherman on guitar.
