The Wraith

“He’s Not From Around Here …” The desert highways run yellow with low-budget cheesy by-product when The Wraith comes calling for revenge!
Shot right here in the Old Pueblo, this totally ‘80s explosion of fast cars, ghostly terror and Charlie Sheen tells the story of a mysterious dude named Jake (Sheen) who shows up in Tucson, AZ (or “Brooks, AZ” as it’s called in the film), in a bitchin’ black car (that would be the Turbo Interceptor), ready to make trouble for a local gang of murderous teen drag-racers who are definitely up to no good. As the Ozzy Osbourne and Motley Crue tunes shred the soundtrack, the evil gang members (who sport awesome names like “Skank,” “Gutterboy” and “Rughead,” the latter played by the hilarious Clint Howard, sporting a killer Eraserhead haircut), meet with a series of grisly “accidents,” teen sexpot Sherilyn Fenn gets all excited, and soon Jake’s true (and quite creepy) identity is revealed … and no, he’s not really Emilio Estevez in disguise – he just might be the undead, leather jumpsuit-wearing, revenge-seeking Wraith! Will Tucson ever be the same again? Fast-paced fun with a hot side order of goofiness (not to mention a distinct lack of logic … but hey, is that really what you’re looking for in a movie like this?), The Wraith is pedal-to-the-metal Mondo material! (Dir. by Mike Marvin, 1986, USA, 93 mins., Rated PG-13)
