Stevie Mack: Oaxaca Woodcarving – A Living Tradition

Stevie Mack is the former owner of CRIZMAC Art & Cultural Education & Travel. She holds an M.A. in Art Education from the University of Arizona and taught art in public schools for 13 years. She was awarded the Arizona Art Educator of the Year in 1998 and Outstanding Service in Art Education in 2000 and 2001.
She also leads art-focused tours to domestic and international destinations for the general public and educators. After years of taking groups to Mexico to participate in Day of the Dead celebrations, she co-authored a book, Day of the Dead, about the colorful traditions of the holiday. Her second book, Day of the Dead Folk Art, highlights the art inspired by the celebration.

Agustin Cruz Prudencio is a woodcarver from the village of San Agustin de las Juntas. Following the tradition of his father, Agustin has earned recognition as a master artisan. The history of the craft and the processes of carving and painting the woodcarvings will be discussed.
Works by Agustin and his family are featured.
Agustin will be present at the talk and on the following weekend, December 14 & 15, 10-4, where he will demonstrate his talent and have his work for sale.
