With lyrics taken from selected songs and sonnets of William Shakespeare, the music of The Actors Guild hovers somewhere between the tradition of narrative country music, with all it’s brutal depictions of heartbreak and loss, and the often mythical world of Shakespeare. The band’s founder, Adam Frumhoff, spent two full years digging though Shakespeare’s writings, gathering up passages and sonnets that guided him to their musical arrangement, as well as composing instrumental works based on characters and stories from the plays . The outcome is a collection of songs that are are as viscerally familiar in their content as they are ancient and arcane.
The Actors Guild is currently over a year into recording a full-length album slated for release in the fall of 2020. With an expansive cast of performers, the coming album’s ensemble includes members of Golden Boots, The Back-Up Brass Band, The Wanda Junes, Freddy Parrish Band, Karima Walker, & Shakesqueer Theater Tucson.
