Local flutists Christine Harper and Sandy Schwoebel will present a free, live concert from a downtown front porch on Sunday, March 14 at 2pm (rain date is March 21, same time/place). The community is invited. Attendees can sit in their cars (street parking is not restricted on Sundays) or bring their own chairs and set up on the sidewalk to listen. Masks are required.
The repertoire they have chosen for this concert is comprised of pop songs, Brazilian tunes, light jazz and movie music — it’s intended to brighten your mood and make you want to move your body. They will also perform the Arizona premieres of selections from Tucson composer Richard White’s “Minute-Tours”, and “Hibernation Blues” by New Jersey composer Ricky Lombardo.
Chris and Sandy are asking other local musicians to join them for the final piece, the “Air in D” by Bach (all socially-distanced, of course), led by special guest conductor Lászlo Veres of the Tucson Pops Orchestra. Parts will be provided, and musicians should bring their own music stands (and chairs if they require them).
The concert is free, but donations will be accepted. All contributions will benefit the Tucson Federation of Musicians Local #33 fund to support musicians who are struggling financially. Checks can also be mailed directly to the union at PO Box 50745, Tucson, AZ 85703-0745 (please make checks payable to Tucson Federation of Musicians AFM Local 33 and indicate “Covid-19 Relief Fund” in the memo line). Donations are not tax deductible.
