On Friday, February 25, 2022, at 10 a.m. MST, Arizona State Representatives Daniel Hernandez (LD 2) and Morgan Abraham (LD 10) will join Tucson solar advocates for a press conference to call for federal action to combat climate change and highlight why significant solar investments are needed in Southern Arizona’s growing solar-energy industry. This event is sponsored by Solar United Neighbors Action.
This informative event is designed to build support for much-needed investments to address the climate crisis, increase the adoption of solar power in Tucson, and drive growth in Arizona’s renewable energy sector.
Despite plentiful year-round sunshine, Arizona’s huge potential to harness the solar market in Tucson is still largely out of reach for nonprofit organizations and low-income communities due to political and bureaucratic procedures, policies and roadblocks to secure better rates for solar and solar-storage adoption. It’s time for that to change.
The featured speakers will highlight the solar investments passed in the U.S. House of Representatives in late 2021. Those funds are critical to addressing the climate crisis and creating millions of good-paying jobs in clean energy while increasing access to solar power and the benefits of clean energy to the Southern Arizona communities that need them most. Prior to the pandemic, clean-energy jobs were growing faster than the economy as a whole. The new investments would also add nearly 83,000 jobs in Arizona over the next five years and deliver massive energy savings for Arizona families.
