Pima Theatre presents Priscilla Queen of the Desert, the musical

Pima Community College Performing Arts presents the Tony Award-winning PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT, the musical. Feb. 22-March 4, Thu. – Sat. at 7:30 p.m., Sat. and Sun. at 2 p.m. Written by Australian film director-writer Stephan Elliott and Allan Scott with well-known pop songs as its score. Based on the popular 1994 movie, “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.” Brought to the stage by the creative team of Todd Poelstra (director), Mickey Nugent (choreographer), Martha Reed (music director) and Dr. Mark Nelson (pit orchestra conductor). The opening night pre-show event, GLITTER & GLAM – Opening Night at the Oasis, features production-themed contests, activities, refreshments and prizes. The celebration is Thursday, February 22 beginning at 6:30 p.m. and is included with the purchase of the ticket. Everyone is invited to attend dressed in drag or their most sparkly outfit for a chance to win prizes. Activities include lip-syncing and a high heel relay. Attendees can also put their creativity to work painting the bus or taking photos in the photo booth. The opening night performance of PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT, the musical follows at 7:30 p.m.

PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT, the musical is a heartwarming, uplifting, crazy adventure of two drag queens and a transgender woman traveling aboard a battered old bus, named Priscilla, to perform a drag show in the remote Australian desert town of Alice Springs. During their journey the trio encounters an array of characters, some of who aren’t receptive to their lifestyle. The trip is, at times, both funny and poignant; yet hidden in the story is an uplifting message of tolerance, diversity, friendship and love. Flying divas, over-the-top-set, dazzling costumes, outrageous wigs, drag makeup, and a hit parade of 80s dance floor favorites makes this wildly fresh and funny musical a journey to the heart of FABULOUS! Numbers include It’s Raining Men, I Will Survive, Hot Stuff, Finally, Boogie Wonderland, Go West, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, and I Love The Nightlife.
