Leslie Goddard brings Lucille Ball to life in her one-woman play Lucy/Lucille, part of this year's Tucson Fringe Festival

Get ready for a trip back to the fabulous 1950s as historian and actress Leslie Goddard brings Lucille Ball alive with her one-woman play, “Lucy/Lucille” as part of this year’s Tucson Fringe Festival.

The performances take place on Sat., Jan. 10 at 2 pm and 8:30 pm; and on Sun, Jan. 11 at 3:30 pm, at the Historic Y (Second Floor Lobby), 738 N 5th Ave., Tucson, AZ.

Tickets begin at $15 and may be purchased at tucsonfringe.simpletix.com .

Written and performed by Goddard, this historical portrayal brings Lucille Ball to life, paying tribute to both the beloved comic legend and the real woman behind the myth. “Lucille Ball was very different offscreen than she was on television,” explains Goddard. “And I became fascinated with exploring what it means when a celebrity’s onscreen legend clashes with her offscreen reality.”

The performances will be held as part of the Tucson Fringe Festival, which runs from January 8 through 11, 2026. Now in its fourteenth year, the Annual Tucson Fringe Performing Arts Festival is a vibrant unjuried performing arts festival featuring more than 35 live performances, showcasing dance, theater, comedy and music.

Tickets can be purchased individually for $15, or as passes for either two Tucson Fringe shows ($25) or five shows ($55). All ticket sales go directly to the artists, supporting the creative community. All performances require a Fringe Button, which is included in ticket purchase.

Leslie Goddard, Ph.D., a resident of Darien, IL, has been presenting portrayals of famous women in history for more than twenty years. Her one-woman plays have garnered numerous awards and critical raves. “No one I’ve ever seen can do an impeccable portrayal as she does – she has a gift few people have,” said Theresa Choske of the Irish-American Heritage Center in Chicago.
