The roots of jazz are alive in popular music. The two have remained joined at the hip throughout the history of the art forms. Enter Leonard Patton and Danny Green: a desire to further explore this musical connection is the raison d’etre behind the Leonard Patton/Danny Green Quartet.
Patton, ever the smoky, soulful vocalist plays in and around the lush piano structures created by Green as the two spin memorable pop standards into a more playful take on jazz.
This joining of forces explores the cream of the Hit Parade, reimagining classic pop radio hit songs by the likes of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and the Beatles. With Danny Green Trio members Justin Grinnell and Julien Cantelm, the quartet uses the familiar as a springboard into a deep pool of originality and improvisation, adding creative twists and turns while maintaining the heritage of the original songs.
