Lights for Liberty Vigil to End Human Concentration Camps

Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Concentration Camps, will hold a vigil on Friday, July 12, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Jacome Plaza, 101 N. Stone Ave., in downtown Tucson.
The candle-lit Tucson event will dovetail with hundreds of similar vigils across the country and around the world. It will feature artists, poets and musicians giving voice to our community’s collective outrage over the government’s horrific treatment of people seeking asylum at our borders.
Together, we will light up the world to demand an end to human detention camps. We will show respect for immigrants who have died seeking safety and security for their families. We will gather to hear expressions of hope – and to seek direction on how to take action.
Please announce this event beforehand in your publication, on the air and on your website, and consider covering it on the 12th. People wanting more details and ways to RSVP can find them here:
Participating performers will present based on this message: “We will not stand idly by while our government engages in inhumane treatment of any people. The Trump administration’s immigration policies are crimes against humanity. We cannot, will not, let this continue.”
Local area co-sponsors include Justice Alliance, The Arizona Ground Game, ACLU of Arizona, Pima County Democratic Party, Physicians for Social Responsibility – Arizona Chapter, PDA Tucson, LD9 Democrats, LD10 Democrats, Indivisible Arizona, Indivisible Tucson Action Alliance, AZ Resist, We Are All America, YWCA STAT, and Tucson Peace Center.
National sponsors include United Farm Workers Foundation, The Dolores Huerta Foundation, Center for Popular Democracy, New Sanctuary Coalition, Black Movement Law Project, V-Day, Code Pink, Indivisible, Women’s March, among dozens of others.
When you cover this event, you’ll find a wide demographic of passionate people expressing their emotions in creative, but respectful, ways. Expect a follow-up email containing final details, including a roster of presenters, in the coming days.
