Kim Wilson CD Release Celebration!
The Southern Arizona Blues Heritage Foundation is once again thrilled to present Kim Wilson’s Blues All-Stars in a KXCI Presents show. SABHF is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to the support, preservation and presentation of Blues music and culture in Southern Arizona. KXCI has made a 30+ year commitment to Blues airplay. SABHF wanted to end the year on a high note after a year of fantastic Blues shows with the top musicians in the genre.
On Friday December 1, 2017 Kim Wilson’s Blues All-Stars will roll into Tucson. Kim Wilson, best known as the leader of the long running Fabulous Thunderbirds is surely one of the best Blues singers and harmonica players in the music business. His harmonica and voice has graced the albums of Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, James Cotton and more. A series of acclaimed solo albums, along with 30+ years of award winning Fabulous Thunderbirds recordings and hundreds of live performances have guaranteed him a place in history.
Kim Wilson was born in Detroit and raised in California. He picked up harmonica as a teenager eventually being mentored by Muddy Waters, George “Harmonica” Smith and James Cotton. He moved to Austin, Texas in 1974 where he started the Fabulous Thunderbirds. They were signed to CBS and had hits with “Tuff Enuff” and “Wrap It Up.” Kim Wilson’s brand new CD, “Blues and Boogie, Vol.1” was just released on Severn Records. It’s a set of classic harmonica fueled Blues with many special guests, including his Blues All-Stars.
Kim Wilson’s Blues All-Stars is indeed that, a roundup of some of the best in the Blues. Appearing with Kim will be guitarist Billy Flynn. Billy has played with Otis Rush, Pinetop Perkins and Mississippi Heat. His new CD, “Lonesome Highway” is on Chicago’s Delmark Records label. Guitarist Big Jon Atkinson has worked with Willie Buck, Henry Gray and James Harman. Big Jon has a recent CD with Bob Corritore that’s been dominating the Blues charts. Kedar Roy on bass and Marty Dodson on drums are two of the West Coast’s most in-demand session players.
Kim Wilson’s Blues All-Stars will be performing at 191 Toole on Friday December 1, 2017 from 7:30-10:30 PM. Advance tickets are available from the Rialto Theatre website, or the Southern Arizona Blues Heritage Foundation website for $17.
